02  | Coaching and counselling

During coaching we get to the root of the problem, define new goals together and implement solutions.
Counselling provides psychological and social support to help cope with challenging life events and difficult situations – whether professional or personal.

Management coaching

Face-to-face dialogue: school principals, school governors, leadership skills and school authorities

People often try to approach a problem using established patterns and perspectives and do not realise they are getting nowhere. Or they realise that they would like to think through a situation with someone else or have an outsider’s point of view.

Management coaching can help you to position yourself and to view a situation from a variety of perspectives. You will define new goals, clarify conflicts and get to the root of problems. We will accompany you through this process.

Quick coaching/Case counselling: A fresh, external perspective can sometimes help to get to the heart of a problem, or simply provide a new way of looking at it. You describe the situation, together we think about what to do, either by telephone, or Zoom – low key, straightforward and timely. (30 mins free per case for contract clients)

We offer support in situations such as:

  • Serious illness, accident or death of employees, students or loved ones
  • Bullying, cyberbullying and sexting
  • Suicide and suicidal thoughts
  • Difficult conversations (e.g. demanding parents, unresolved conflicts)
  • Aggression, violence or abuse in the workplace
  • Employee or student mental health problems
  • Professional and personal crises and problems

Teacher coaching

Analyse your teaching style and class management in conjunction with professionals and try something new? Reveal hidden interactions and dynamics in the classroom? We can help! Experienced psychologists (some with many years’ experience in the classroom) will provide an external opinion and devise practicable solutions in conjunction with you.

Coaching might include the following:

  • Class visits and analyses of dynamics (who is controlling the class? Conspicuous behaviour by individual children)
  • Reflection on teaching (how do I develop and challenge individual children? What do my reactions/does my teaching style trigger in children? What should I change/keep?)
  • Analysis of situations between children/young people, between parents and school, teaching staff and managers and other parties. Search for how to proceed and opportunities to act.

We provide support for newly qualified teachers or career switchers joining the teaching profession

Teacher training colleges prepare teachers for many things, but rarely for the little demoralising things that can make every day so stressful.

  • Class discipline
  • Neurodivergent children
  • Parents’ consultations/Parental expectations
  • Fast, professional response in worsening situations
  • Personal distancing and mental hygiene/burnout prevention

In a brief coaching session we analyse your situation and get to the bottom of the problem. A professional with sufficient distance will provide you with fair, clear feedback. Together we will consider new ways to act. You decide what you want to implement.

We provide you with guidance where you want it, for as long as you need it.

Counselling

We counsel employees of school authorities and, on request, parents, reference persons, children and young people.

For which situations do we provide support?

  • Tense school and/or personal situations
  • Problems with employees, managers, parents, students, authorities, etc.
  • Life crises, questions about child-rearing and development, fear of the future, personal problems, burnout and mental health problems

How do we work?
Our work focuses on our clients, their social systems and their needs. We will devise sustainable solutions together with you during individual counselling sessions. The counselling is generally provided by your employer. The counsellors are bound by professional confidentiality.

Counselling can be a stand-alone event. Alternatively, as a support package it can form an essential component in corporate health promotion and crisis prevention.

Fast appointments
We always try to arrange an appointment for the initial consultation as soon as possible, usually within one week.

Employee counselling

A contract module comprises six hours of counselling per employee. This gives your employees the possibility of obtaining personalised, low-key help and advice. This also includes individual supervision.

Further information about contracts with inclusive employee counselling is available from www.mitarbeiter-beratung.ch
